HURP is a registered Non-Profit Organization (NPO) and Public Benefit Organization (PBO) focused on addressing poverty, creating jobs, and empowering individuals, particularly unemployed youth, single mothers, and people with disabilities. Launched in 2018 with sponsorship from WRSETA, HURP aims to tackle high unemployment rates and provide educational opportunities to underserved communities.
● Combat Unemployment: Provide accredited training and experiential learning opportunities to help youth gain employment.
● Empower Rural Youth: Offer education in ICT skills, retail, hospitality, and foundational skills.
● Foster Sustainable Development: Build local capacity through training, mentoring, and coaching.
● Bridge the Gap: Align with South Africa’s National Development Plan (NDP) to support economic transformation and inclusive growth.
HURP addresses the following challenges:
● High Youth Unemployment: With a 45.5% unemployment rate among youth aged 15-34.
● Educational Disparity: Only 9.8% of employed youth are graduates, highlighting limited access to quality education.
● Lack of Experience: Youth with work experience significantly outperform those without, emphasizing the need for experiential learning.
HURP implements its goals through:
● Accredited Training: Providing relevant, high-quality occupational qualifications.
● Experiential Learning: Facilitating workplace experience, apprenticeships, and internships.
● Mentorship and Coaching: Offering ongoing support to ensure sustainable development.
● Technology Integration: Ensuring access to technology, including tablets and data, to enhance learning.
Donations to HURP are used to:
● Provide Education: Fund training programs and educational resources for rural youth.
● Facilitate Experiential Learning: Cover costs related to workplace placements and internships.
● Offer Mentorship and Coaching: Support the development of comprehensive mentoring programs.
● Expand Outreach: Help scale our programs to reach more communities and individuals.
Since its inception, HURP has:
● Empowered Over 430 Youth: Provided education and training that has led to significant improvements in their employment prospects.
● Raised 29 Million in Education Funds: Supported various initiatives and expanded the reach of our programs.
● Achieved an 80% Absorption Rate: Demonstrated success in integrating trained youth into the workforce.
HURP aims to educate 5,000 rural youth by 2030, giving them the skills and opportunities they need to build successful careers. Our vision is to transform lives and communities by breaking the cycle of poverty and unemployment through education and training.
